Location
The BioScience Park Krems and the Campus Krems are the main locations for Biotechnolgy in Krems. The Danube University Krems, the IMC University of Applied Sciences and the business startup company Accent are located at the Campus Krems. With its focus on post-graduate education, the Danube University Krems comprises 17 departments for education and research and has more than 4 700 Students. In addition, the IMC University of Applied Sciences offers 18 degree programs, covering the three core areas Business, Health and Life Sciences, for more than 1 800 students.
The BioScience Park Krems incorporates life science-focused high-tech companies that conduct research and development for new innovative products and therapeutic strategies, such as company related cancer cell research. Special autologous immune cells, so-called "dendritic cells", are undergoing test series and clinical studies until their development reaches market maturity.
Another main focus in Krems is the research of new signaling molecules (peptides, proteins), which are used for example for accelerated wound healing or effective blood vessel growth.
Furthermore, innovative "biologic implants" for healing and reparation of damaged joints and therefore required surgery methods are developed. Biologic implants for knee joints, are hence already in use.
In the field of blood purification systems, you find intensified development of "immune adsorber" for the treatment of patients with autoimmune diseases or after organ transplants.
The life science activities in Krems are actively supported by the Technopol program of Lower Austria.
